Provided are a hinge assembly (100) and a foldable electronic device. The hinge assembly (100) comprises a base (10), panels (20), and a support plate (30). The panels (20) are arranged on two sides of the base (10) in the width direction. The support plate (30) comprises a first plate body (31) and second plate bodies (32) connected to two sides of the first plate body (31) in the width direction. The first plate body (31) is located between a screen (300) and the base (10) and is fixedly connected to the base (10). At least part of each second plate body (32) is located between the screen (300) and the corresponding panel (20). In the hinge assembly (100), the first plate body (31) of the support plate (30) is fixedly connected to the base (10), and when the panels (20) rotate from an unfolded state to a folded state, in a bending region at the middle of the screen (300), i.e., a part where the screen (300) applies pressing force to the support plate (30) and the base (10), the first plate body (31) does not slide relative to the screen (300) and the base (10) and thus sliding friction does not occur, thereby not generating friction-induced abnormal noise, and ensuring user experience when using a foldable mobile phone.
