Disclosed is a system and method therefor providing integration of solar energy in fossil fired power plant. A system that integrate a solar heat exchanger (16) in the feed water (102) circuit parallel to the last regenerative feed water heat exchanger (9) of a fossil fired power plant. A portion of feed water (102) shall be tapped between last (9) and penultimate (8) regenerative feed water heat exchanger and diverted (103) to solar heat exchanger (16). The heated feed water (104) from solar heat exchanger (16) shall be brought back and mixed with the feed water exiting (105’) from the last regenerative feed water heat exchanger (9). The net effect is that less coal is used to generate a given amount of electricity which in turn also results in reduced carbon dioxide emissions.
