NEUROMUSCULAR AND SENSOR BASED CONTROL METHOD FOR ACTIVE ANKLE PROSTHESIS

Abstract

Neuromuscular and sensor based control method for active ankle prosthesis associated with the control method of ankle’s angle in sagittal and coronal or frontal plane. Surface electromyography signal captured from residual limb muscles and processes in accordance with accelerometer and (OR) force transducer and used to detect intended ankle movement allows user controlled multi DOF movement. Which also provides automatic calibration of electromyography signal to remove various noise, SEMG artifacts, non-voluntary EMG and makes it universal to use. Force transducer and accelerometer used to detect phase of gait and accordance change the control strategy. It may also be used as standalone to change the position of ankle. I.e. dorsiflexion, plantarflexion, evert and invert movement.
