ROLLER HINGE WITH FRICTION ELEMENT

Abstract

A roller hinge with a friction element is disclosed. An electronic device may include a flexible display mounted to a foldable housing. The collapsible housing may include a first housing portion and a second housing portion coupled by a hinge aligned with the bending axis. The hinge may include a roller and intersecting friction blades that rotate about a plurality of axes of rotation. The hinge may include shafts received by the blades and each aligned with a respective one of the rotational axes. Some of the vanes may include gears for imparting synchronous movement of the first and second housing portions, while the other vanes may include hard stop structures for imparting open and closed position hard stops. In some arrangements, the blades may include vertical slots that receive a common pin and provide both synchronous motion functionality and hard stop functionality.
