A vacuum control system for a sap collection system having a conduit network coupled to a plurality of trees and a vacuum pump operatively connectable to the conduit network to control a pressure in the conduit network is provided. The vacuum control system can comprise a reference pressure sensor coupled to a reference tree, the reference pressure sensor being configured to measure a pressure within a vascular system of the reference tree, and a controller communicatively coupled to the pressure sensor and configured to control a flow rate of the vacuum pump in response to pressure data received from the pressure sensor to vary a pressure in the conduit network of the sap collection system.
