An electronic device, a method and a computer program product triggers de-activating of a virtual background of a live video feed during a video communication session in response to detecting a new face in a background of the participant captured by a camera. The method includes, while presenting to a video communication session, a live video feed comprising a foreground image that is superimposed onto a virtual background, monitoring background FOV of the camera to detect a presence/entry of a new face in the background FOV. In response to detecting the new face, the method includes determining if the new face is a face of an approved on-screen video conference (AOVC) individual. The method includes rendering and presenting a user selectable option on a display to de-activate the virtual background from the video feed, in response to the new face being of an AOVC individual.
