The present invention relates to a water filter and an adapter for a water filter. A water filter according to an embodiment of the present invention is detachably coupled to a head connected to a water supply source and includes a filter housing accommodating a filter member for water purification, a filter cap covering an open upper surface of the filter housing and having a protruding inlet port and a protruding outlet port, and an adapter coupled to an upper end of the filter cap. In a state in which the adapter is coupled to the filter cap, the adapter is rotatably coupled to the head so that the inlet port and the outlet port are placed in communication with a flow path inside the head.
