How ISERDIndia Supports Young Innovators: Our Journey as a Non-Profit
ISERDIndia, the Intellectual's Society for Entrepreneurship and Research Development, is a non-profit organisation founded in 2019. From India's first National IPR Olympiad to free IP tools anyone can use, here is what we have built for students, researchers and young founders so far.
Why We Exist
Most young innovators in India learn about intellectual property the hard way: after someone else has copied their work, registered their brand name, or filed a similar idea first. We started ISERDIndia in 2019 to change that. As a non-profit, our goal is not to sell services. It is to make innovation an integral part of society by cultivating IP awareness, building entrepreneurship and research skills among young innovators, and giving them platforms to protect and commercialise their ideas.
Our motto: "For the Intellects, To the Intellects, By the Intellects." Everything we do runs on four connected pillars: entrepreneurship, research and development, education and awareness, and intellectual property.
India's First National IPR Olympiad
In our founding year we organised India's first National IPR Olympiad, a competition that introduced students across the country to patents, trademarks, copyright and designs. For many participants it was the first time anyone had told them that ideas can be protected, and that protecting them is a skill worth learning early.
The same year, our work was listed on the WIPO World IP Day Event Map, placing events organised for Indian students alongside IP celebrations around the world, and we supported India's First Youth Space Conference.
What We Have Done, Year by Year
| Year | Initiatives |
|---|---|
| 2019 | Founded ISERDIndia · Organised India's first National IPR Olympiad · Listed on the WIPO World IP Day Event Map · Supported India's First Youth Space Conference |
| 2020 | India's Biggest IP Virtual Roundtable · Anti-Corona awareness campaign · World Environment Day Quiz · Supported the National IPR Moot Court Competition |
| 2021 | Live Certificate Course on Patent Law · Startup Fundraising Masterclass · School of Foreign Languages · Cyber Security Masterclass |
| 2022 onwards | Full-service IP and legal support for startups and innovators across India, alongside continuing education and awareness work |
Through these years the pattern has stayed the same: find something young innovators are not being taught, and build an event, a course or a competition around it.
Free Tools Anyone Can Use
Awareness events reach the people in the room. Tools reach everyone else. That is why we keep building free, self-serve tools on this website:
- IPBuddy Café: a friendly chatbot that answers IP questions in plain language, any time.
- IP games: interactive games that teach patents, trademarks and copyright by playing, built with students in mind.
- Trademark search: check Indian trademark journal records before you fall in love with a brand name.
- Trademark class finder: describe your business and find the classes you need, including the ones people forget.
- Patent valuation calculator: an honest starting point for understanding what a patent may be worth.
- Creator IP check: built for influencers and content creators, who usually own more IP than they realise.
A quick free registration is all most of these need. No fees and no sales calls.
From Awareness to Full Support
Some innovators need more than awareness. They need a patent drafted, a trademark filed, or a design registered. Since 2022 our registered Patent and Trademark Agents have provided these services at accessible fees, so the students and founders we first met at an Olympiad or a workshop have somewhere trustworthy to go when their idea is ready. Every invention disclosure we receive is protected by an NDA before anyone reads it.
